My name is Molly Schulte. I am a mom of a 4th and 1st grader and a high school math teacher. I grew up in Wilmington and moved to Channahon in 2013. When my husband and I were looking for a place to call home, an excellent school district was certainly a checkbox on our list of priorities. However, after our son started kindergarten in 2020, that checkbox turned into the main reason we never want to leave. I was incredibly impressed with the decisions our superintendent and school board had to make that year and I have been nothing but impressed ever since.
The most recent policy regarding no cell phones or smart watches in our schools is one I feel very passionate about. The implementation of that decision at the start of this school year showed me that our administrators, teachers, and school board members are true partners with us as parents. They consistently put our kids first and always do what is best for them and their learning.
Decisions like these are part of the reason I ran for the temporary school board position that opened at the end of 2024. Since my values aligned with our superintendent and the current board, I knew I could step up and help make a smooth and seamless transition for them and for our district.
As board members, our job is not to run the schools. Our superintendent was hired to do that. Our job is to function as a check and balance, to provide oversight, to ensure accountability, and to represent the interests of our community. Moving forward, that will remain my top priority.
As a mom and a current school board member, I am so proud of our district and I believe we have been evolving and improving organically with time. I plan to support and continue to advocate for policies that are in the best interest of our kids, our parents, and the people that are with them seven hours every day, our teachers and our administrators. They are the backbone of our schools and the reason our kids have access to high-quality, equitable, and engaging learning opportunities that help prepare them for their future.
